Last Tree Standing

The earth warms slowly, change resistant, barely noticeable, vegetation recedes. Fertile replaced by sterile, water evaporated, not replaced, vegetation recedes, sand marches forward. Too late to react, too late to correct, the earth will survive, man left to his fate. Years of abuse and neglect have impact, it is hot, not much left alive, surrounded by sand, he begins to cry. He stares at the small patch of vegetation surrounding the last tree standing, watches as the vegetation disappears and day turns to night. Placing his back against the last tree standing, he cries.

The environment is important to most people and to the Earth .. a necessity.. u have spoken for the trees and soil of the abused Earth .. in your poignant poetry today Mac... I too have a green thumb and care for the garden I grow and the plants that fill my home.. have at least 12 trees surrounding my property.. they are the real beauties to see... luv.. Linda-Marie..

And God planted a garden in Eden and placed man there to tend it. And God said it was good. Man's responsiblity was to spread that garden over the whole earth.....what happened? Keep the thought provoking writes coming forth. Sara
