Last Hoorah

Red has tinged the maple leaves The poplar turns to gold Autumn comes on zephry's wings When colors become bold Summer's last hoorah waits behind the stage and slowly bows And the curtains will be drawn tight As autumn's leaves do wow! A type of Poulter's Measure Syllable count 8,6,8,6 with rhyme on 6 Poulter's Measure was a name given to the poetry because sometimes when the hens were laying good the farmer would give 14 eggs instead of a dozen(12) Hence, 6+8=14 Sponsor: Kelly Deschler Contest: Summer's End Written: August 30, 2014

Dear Sara, I hope you are seeing some of fall's colors now, but it will probably be most evident in October in your area. Your poem is a delight to read! Can't wait to see some fall colors when I travel in a couple weeks. Best wishes in the contest! Love, carolyn
