Land of Ukraine

Of Flanders Fields the mournful threads remain -
As tears now shed on homeland of Ukraine.

Land of Ukraine! The dark winds blow,
Homes burnt to ashes row on row,
Peace paused under the same blue sky,
No larks but bursting rockets fly,
As families cower below.

Those who have laughed short days ago,
Now flee to foreign borders fro
Their sacred home, no longer free,
Land of Ukraine.

The world recoils from the foe
As chilling threats they toss and throw.
Leaders, amid harsh sanctions, plead,
Yet powerless ‘gainst conquest’s creed.
We shall not rest while dark winds blow
Land of Ukraine.

This poem is so heartfelt and sad. The world is now darkened because of the horrid atrocities that have befallen these precious people. If the evil madness cannot be quelled, where will he march to next with his dark heart of madness for conquest and evil? It is chilling and unbelievable. Your poem is exquisite in its love and empathy. <3 ~BJ

Powerful! It’s a pity though that world leaders are twiddling their thumbs while the stronger animal devours the weaker. Good luck for the contest, Margarita

Thank you, that is the ugly hue to this war, the rest of the world silenced by evil...

"The world stands still" is subject to interpretation, but it seems clear everyone is just waiting for their God to do something about Putin . . . Aloha!

You are right, not quite so I searched for a better phrase. M.
