Laments of the Old

LAMENTS OF THE OLD

that poor, painful cry
“i’ve fallen and can’t get up!”
hope god will hear you

this is my sickness –
i want to sleep all the time
my kitty don’t mind

i will surely die
forgot to take prescriptions
it’s part of old age

the house is a mess
my wife saves everything
blames it on the cat

oh, dear lord, now what?
there is a crack house next door
change locks seal windows

a car just went by
music so loud it shook the house
scared old puss in boots
mortuary called
bargain price on caskets
it WAS a fine day

i can’t control gas
nor the water works either
monthly bill sky high

Daver, We do indeed become as children again as we age. Need more sleep etc. but my daughter, who is a nurse, says her patients who can't remember they were unhappy, sing and enjoy life, so she lets them enjoy. When they call for their mates, she says they will be back soon, even though they have passed on, and they accept that joyfully. I feel the most unfair part of aging is you can't get your body to do what you want it to anymore. I enjoyed your poem and could certainly relate. hugs, Connie

Can relate to these, Daver: Another is who is that old person in then mirror. I used to be so lithe, pretty and upbeat.....time is the cruelest phenomenon......no one can beat it..... Smile...it's all we can do.. Hugs, SuZ

oh my oh my oh my. Sounds horrible. I loved the part that your wife blames the house condition on the cats. Get up and help her work. hahahaha.
