Lamentations of a Poet
what has happened to this country
i’ve known to be
full of hope and peace and love?
what has happened to this nation
i’ve waken up to
a people who fight
for freedom and justice?
i cringe with what
i now see...
a bloody arena,
a killing field
a hammock of corpses
blood smearing the highways...
is this the change
my children anticipate to feel?
is this the change my grandchildren
look forward to?
if change would claim lives
and would spew the streets
with so much bitterness and painful howling,then,
i shake my head
to this and say,
“this is no better change ,
but the worst i’m afraid it’ll be”
God, look upon this country, i plea!
