Notes About The Poem

Ladybird

I rubbed the tips
      of my thumb
and forefinger together
       to accentuate
            the scent
she had left behind
as she flew away home;
     held it to my nostrils
            and inhaled
      the musky scent
              of
     green bell peppers.
Her house was not
         on fire
or children all gone
       but she
    opened
her ruby red carapace
       spread her
   lacy wings
left her
      smell of fear.

And Ann?
