Notes About The Poem

For Nette Onclaud's Seven By Seven Poetry Contest

This poem is based on a true story. In the late 80's when we lived in Bay area, CA, I was traveling back to our apt from Sacramento with just my young son. On our way home we saw this giant maze along the freeway, so we took the exit to have some fun together. This ended up being a nightmare for us. I believe we were stuck in there at least two hours, maybe three, and it was getting dark, so I could not wait for the owners to somehow rescue us! To this day, I hate mazes! It was terrifying! I don't even recall how we got out of it. They might have helped us!

Labyrinth

Leery was I of the maze
I entered with my young son.
Although a Halloween craze,
it was anything but fun.
Lost in twisting pathways, we
raced through it with dread 'til they
closed the place, and we were free!

Congratulations, dear poetess on your top win in this contest, turning a leery event into a lovely poem. I think there would have been cops or agents around to help find the way..... Anyway wish you a blissful new week.

Wow! How scary! I don’t like any place that feels like a maze (I.e. malls, etc..) I did a corn maze with my grandson this year…took a while to get out!

yeah, not a great experience. Now I know the rule for doing them. You always turn in the same direction!!

Whoa!! I would not have liked that either. Glad somehow you and your son got out. Good to write about it and set that nightmare free. Sara K

It's weird how some things can make you feel scared when logically you know that eventually that place would have helped us get out. I just was wanting to get home. I really hate puzzles!!

The first line can be read backward. It is scary. I've been in a maze before. Emotions of fear abound.

I can't read the first line backward! I since learned to get out of a maze, you need to choose either left or right wall. Then follow always to that side when you turn!

I think we were both scared the same. I hate driving in the dark and was dreading that too

I wish I remembered how we got out. I remember calling out , so maybe we finally followed someone out. Wish I could remember. Maybe we even did it ourselves ! Years later someone told me always turn right. That's how you get out of mazes. Or was it left? Haha my memory is the worst
