"What's in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet." - William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

A Sam Scott poem:
20th December 2023
-----

Listen to poem:
I could wrap you In secret And cling Like double-sided Just to keep Your gift From prying eyes But I have No label A name, perhaps But no concept No complete picture For the pieces Of you Labels Are for things. Boundaries. Pigeon holes. For just a Moment In the journey We remove them On arrival Or when they are Dog-eared Or when they are wrong Or at least We should I don't want To label You. Me. Or Anyone Unless That label.. Reads as follows: "Seen" "Found" "Friend" "Unique" "BeLoved" "Beautiful" "Accepted" "Treasured" "Marvellous" "Just perfect" "No changes required" "If lost, please return home"

labels are shallow and dangerous in my book. Your poem resonated with me with its wisdom and profundity. I agree. Labels are for things! Well done and soulful! Have a great evening, Sara

Dear Sam, thats actually one of my fave quotes you’ve used here by shakey, i played juliet in highschool drama, in literature.. and about the poem, i wish for a world with less labels and ones that appreciate and welcome others with open arms with no judgements “ A name, perhaps But no concept No complete picture the pieces Of you” this especially is soul stirring. Your way with phrasing thoughts is so evocative. “ Labels Are for things” so true. Labels arent necessary for soul connections.FAVE

Dear Ink, we will battle labels all our lives, I guess, but I pray for only positives for you. Thank you for your encouragement always :))

Oh my, this is such a beautiful poem, Sam.I truly know how it feels when false labels are adhered on one's heart, leaving one's soul in an illusionary abyss where love ceases to reach. If for once, we can honestly understand each other on this earth, spread empathetic vibes and heal every wounded soul with light and kindness~it would become a paradise to live in. This poem and your note in the comments-they truly warmed my heart so much! We need more such poems in this world, beautifully crafted!

May all your labels be transient this Christmas. May they be memories of gifts of love. May all unhelpful, unkind, untrue labels placed on you be replaced with those that add value, or else be removed by the ever-kind, loving hand. - blessing from poet
