Kyoto Subway Station

Morning, 8 AM. Kyoto Subway Station. A single gaijin, a foreigner surrounded yet standing out in the crowd. The train clips along, slows down, stops, starts up again repetitively. Whilst humanity surrounds, one can still feel so alone.

Enjoyed your poem and its deft portrayal of feeling an alien creature among others not like oneself. You have accomplished the objective of picturing a crowd that, although present, you were not really a part of except merely physically present. Good work.

Thank you, sir. I lived in Kyoto several years ago. The experience of living there was exciting and stimulating but often isolating as well. Nevertheless, I am still glad I went there. Glad you enjoyed the poem. Cheers, Jim
