Knowledge if pondered over not
Created are ears to hear,
Words for thought, wisdom to rear.
He that mulls not on what’s heard,
How will he wind way in world?

Sanskrit Translation | 16.01.2026 | ear, hear, ponder, wisdom, world, quatrain
Note: Some quatrains called shlokas in Sanskrit are known as Subhaashhitams, words well-said. This one dwells on hearing/reading (hearing, because of the oral tradition in ancient India). One has to dwell or ponder on what is heard, think it through, understand it thoroughly, put it to practice and turn it into wisdom. If not, the bookish knowledge is not of much use. Transliteration follows:
Shrotavye cha krtau karnau,
Vaak buddhe cha vichaarane |
Yah shrutam na vichaareta,
Sah kaaryam vindate katham || Subhaashhitam ||
