Knowing You Are Near
I sometimes fail to thank you, Lord, for all the things you do
Like the special way you pick me up when I’m feeling blue.
You made a promise long ago that you would not forsake
Now you’re with me, precious Savior – every step I take.
I know for sure there is a place, deep inside of me,
A place of joy and comfort, all because of Thee
I’ve come to know the comfort of having you so near
And Satan’s power is limited – Of him I have no fear.
I’ve seen the ones you’ve chosen down through history.
Do things that they shouldn’t -- there was no mystery.
Sometimes they’d let their guard down and Satan would step in.
Righteousness was always there to make sure they would win.
You are the only sinless man to walk here on this earth,
You showed what Adam was meant to be long before your birth.
You came to make atonement for all of mankind’s sin
And on that tree you made us free to live and sin again.
So I will take all my sins and lay them at your feet
Your grace and mercy covers them and makes my life complete.
Sin cannot outrun forgiveness, no matter what we hear
And comfort can be taken in knowing you are near.
Writer’s note:
Mercy is when God does not give us what we surely deserve
Grace is when God gives us that which we surely do not deserve.
