Notes About The Poem

 At My Former job of 23 years I had this African freing from TOGO who plays the guitar at his church... He's compose some music to some of my lyrics... When I first met him I found it touching that his mother really named him INNOCENT...

 At the job we had a running joke/gag I would say what happen if you were to get pulled over by a not so nice, understanding police officer...

Police saying, " What's your Name"

                 My friend would say  "I'm Innocent "

     to me this is police brutality waiting to happen LOL!!

 

Know-I Am Not Innocent-

Now you know it's all well;
Now that you know I was born in sin;(still)...
And with Christ I'm born, again-born again;
And Jesus is my anointed friend, my only, only friend;
And I want to be in heaven knee down and bent;
And Lord you know that I want to be sent
To heaven, to heaven to heaven on my way
To see Jesus, see you Jesus, live with you and God always
I pray, I say to my God in no special way...
Now you know I am not innocent
Yet my mother named me this way.
I know I am, I am I not innocent;
Even tho, even tho my mother named me this so
I'm not Innocent---
On my knees, on my knees, on my knees night and day;
Day and night.
Praying that everything, everything will be alright, alright
Because I am a man born in sin;
Now you know I am not innocent;
With Christ I'm born again;
Yes, for I dare to believe so that I can receive;
His mercies and grace, His Holy face;
With Christ I am born again;
Yes for I dare to believe and I shall receive;
For yet I will achieve, well
Without transgressions, I am innocent
I pray, I say I stay holding on to my God in no special way
Yet here today, now you know I am not innocent
But I repent
You know I am not innocent

Now you know I am not innocent
Innocent for I repent of my sins, my sins, my sins
I've repent of my sins and no I am not innocent, no, no, no
Though my mama names me innocent;
Unlike my name that doesn't make me sin less
I am not innocent
I've sinned and I am not innocent
