Knife

The mightiest of weapons
Forged by will alone
Stronger than steel
They cut to the bone

In contact with the very soul
In harms, befouls, cuts deep
When sung with love from mothers’ lips
They put you straight to sleep

The mightiest of weapons
Lashed out in anger
Wound your kin
Befriend a stranger

The power consumes my waking mind
How can I with this danger rest
Can I strike out with careful tongue
To deaden, to stoke, to pass the test

The mightiest of weapons
Here the power grows
To humble mighty emperors
To halt your wrathful foes

Power corrupts the incorruptible
It kills what honor is left
Can I reach out for goodness
Without harming the bereft

The mightiest of weapons
Use with utmost care
The wise can bring peace
Where danger once did wear

This is quite well done, but should not have been listed as, "Free Verse" which I almost NEVER read! Aloha! Rico
