Hello Greg, I am a Catholic, so I took it as a joke. Different teaching is even in the Catholic religion. You figure it would all be the same , but no it isn't.

Eve, there's always some deeper, nuanced meaning in Ogden Nash's very best poems. Mostly, the joke is wrapped in a lesson or a wisdom. Just a joke alone is fine, it's good. We all need a smile every while. I was raised on the Baltimore Catechism and it's simple rules for life. Herding cats would be too great a challenge for even the masters of religious propaganda, The Roman Catholic Church. We can thank the Jesuits for teaching me this way to think. Strange irony, don't you think?

Loved your clever response Sam. Of all the isms out there, the Baltimore catechism was one of my favs. Did you know Ogden Nash was from Baltimore? Small world, I'd say. Thanks muchly.

Thank you Paula. So sentient of you to realize that there were some layers here as well. Most just stop at the pun, not knowing there is more fun.

Quite clever critique Susan. This is the first of my tribute poems to one of my favs, Ogden Nash. I'm sure you have some favs as well. I know it's offbeat for me but it is fun. So glad you enjoyed. When I get another moment I'll read your The Irony Of Fate poem. We can CATch up then. Be well.
