King of the Mountain

It doesn’t seem like that long ago I was heading to the park Meet some friends and play until well after dark It was a special time being young and free Riding the sliding board or climbing a tree An innocence searching for a pot of gold Never dreaming of growing old I was king of the mountain, on top of the hill I was Robin Hood and Buffalo Bill Pony tails and freckles were in style My heart would race when I’d see her smile We’d light up a lucky because we were men Filters were for girls way back then In the pavilion we’d meet the rest of the crowd While a transistor radio played music out loud Sometimes we’d lie in the grass and count the stars Or look at taillights and identify cars We’d ride our bicycles home at night On the handlebars we’d tie a flashlight We shared our happiness, joys and sorrow Living for today, not worrying about tomorrow I’m still king of the mountain and there I’ll stay Enjoying each moment with each passing day

How I wish I could go back and re-live the past. I realize now, that those days are more important to me than I thought they would be. But, as I can't go back, I try to live each day to the fullest. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful write! -Alana

Vince it's a shame we can't go back and freeze time. Knowing what I know now I'd never want to leave those truly HAPPY DAYS. No one had very much money but on the other hand you didn'T need much either, Thanks as always for the memories. Blessings, Ron

It truly was an age of innocence, especially in the more rural areas. Once again you have have captured the spirit of those long lost days. Thanks for a most enjoyable read. Regards Heidie

I love your vivid memories of those "wonder years". ! The same era as when I grew up, when the world was at our feet! But what wonderful times they were! I feel sorry for kids of today......they have no idea what great times we had. Reading your poetry from those young years, you could easily have been some young rascal from my home town! Keep writing those memories for the rest of us to relive! Fondly, Carrie
