Author's Notes: This Double Dactyl poem on "King Lear's Voice" was the perfect vehicle for me to capture, at a high level, some of the salient aspects of Shakespeare's historically tragic figure as I have depicted in the poetic text. King Lear, as with other famous Shakespearean plays, are truly as relevant in today's world as they were in the time of Shakespeare. This is even more evident when one realizes that Shakespeare, through his poetry and plays, was, and still is today, a true master of portraying and illustrating the many-sided aspects of what is called the Human Condition. King Lear’s Voice

Nothing out of nothing
William Shakespeare
A king of true tragedy
No unconditional love.

No never and nothing
Machiavellian
His descent into madness
Dead to Heaven above.

Hi Richard, a powerful, deep poem. There is so much madness in this world. From William Shakespeare's "King Lear," to King Trump and other world leaders. A wonderful crafted write that holds much truth. Have a wonderful Wednesday. Your friend always....Mike.

Hello Mike, I see you found my most recent Double Dactyl poem concerning King Lear. I fear that "King Trump's" descent into his form of madness, coupled with all of his innate nonsense and rank stupidity shall not augur for the troubled world we live in. I'm very pleased that you liked this particular write about one of Shakespeare's great and tragic characters. There is much hidden meaning with this one. Best Wishes My Friend!! Gary

Hello Liam Mate!! Yes, for sure -- madness oft becomes that one-way street with no return. The symbolic and metaphoric lesson's from Shakespeare's "King Lear" are quite relevant in today's world. Just take a good look at Human Society today and crossover to some of the whacky politicians and would-be leaders and some of their egomaniacal tendencies. Shakespeare would have a veritable heyday, if he were here to observe and to write in this twenty-first century!! Cheers and Best, Gary
