Kindness Is Not Weakness

Being kind,
is to risk getting hurt,
feeling like a sucker,
when others do not do
what you do for them.

Choosing it,
nonetheless,
is courage,
while selfishness is cowardice,
not the other way around.

Kindness challenges injustice,
selfishness condones it,
the former innovates,
the latter follows
the follies of this fallen world.

I wrote this yesterday, after a boyfriend of two years I treated with nothing but kindness chose illicit drugs over me. Yet I still believe in kindness.
