Notes About The Poem

Over 14,000 lives were taken because of heroin related causes in 2023, just in the United States. Sadly, two of my friends lost their children from it. This poem is not about me, but about someone trying to battle it, and trying to keep Mr. Aich out of his system, for ever. The stuff that's on the streets now has to be much worse more now than it ever was. Dowsed with fetanyl and other unknown chemicals is a scary thought. 

Kicking Mr Aich

As I walked along that lonely road 
Before the sun lay red 
Change, was on my mind 
Dealing with the devil, too damn long
Endless nights have bled my veins with sour milk 
For I have been awakened- by will 
God perhaps, maybe- maybe not 
Heel to him and he will heal you, so they say 
I must prove to myself first- that I am, for real 
Just because actions speak louder than lips 
Knocking on heaven's door cracked my knuckles 
Looking for life with sewn eyelids 
Maybe, my world is nothing but a dream 
No one really knows me, 
Other than myself, or, do I 
Poor judgement was my shield
Quarreling with myself, I was sure to lose 
Reaching out to hope, gave me hope 
Searching for that slim escape passage 
Time had come, no more "Mr. Bad Guy" 
Under my want, and desperate need 
Vowing to believe...again 
Wanting to believe...again 
X'ing out any thoughts, desires, and temptations
Yearning for life...again 
Zeroing out- Mr. Aich

Ink Empress December 8, 2023 at 5:25 PM Powerful abcedarian on addiction and the battles and struggles of individuals going through that. Here too we have so many cases like this and i think instead of punishment they need help and assistance professionally , maybe rehab which most cant even afford, i love the opening line in this. Was captivating and also so many other brilliant lines, which just depicts the evilness of this condition,and helplessness so well delivered especially through ending. I am mind-boggled and utterly in the dark. Why? But I totally agree, professional assistance may be the answer..to some. Thank you for your thoughts on this, and for your ongoing support. Hugs Charlie
