Kick the Dust

I knew when I sat on that swing
in the heat
and waited
I knew that you would not come
that you were gone
dead so fast sick and dead so fast
I never imagined
I wouldn't see you again
whose father dies like that
without goodbye?
Many hours
I sat on that swing in the August heat
there was nothing else for a girl to do
just kick the dust to pass time.
