Keeping Silence in the Depths
The learned, swirling with thoughts
of a blossom in each mer-girl’s hair,
those burbling kids have no synthetic wear,
no vision of things on soil, but of the sea
the torrential terror of bigger fish, the illusion
is their prettiness. Whispers emanate
their fear of sharks, whales and humankind.
They keep their silence in the depths.
Some fool mermaids and sirens let themselves
be known. Now what lies are made up, keep
the intelligent far below the surface. Rustic
lands only one knew…she fell in love.
Well, isn’t that grand. Now timeless the tricks,
the snares of those who breathe and die
in the seas, yet who have dared the apparatus
to search for what they must not capture.
