My husband had been battling cancer for two and a half years when it suddenly moved to his brain. We thought he couldn't speak anymore and all of a sudden one night he finally said "I love you. You're beautiful." That's pretty well the only words he repeated for a whole week to both myself and his daughter. He said it at least fifty times... what a pure heart he had ~

Listen to poem:
I know it’s selfish to miss the days the hospital bed was in the livingroom when I could still caress your hand and climb up to hold you close to me I know it’s selfish to miss the days when I could hear your labored breath echo throughout I know it’s selfish but what I would give to go back to the last time you looked at me and whispered I love you you’re beautiful AP: 3rd place 2021 Submitted on November 25, 2020 for contest THE LAST 1 sponsored by ANTHONY BIAANCO - RANKED 1ST

Congrats! Thanks for sharing this... as you bare your soul with your earnest, "I know it’s selfish..." which is actually... being lovingly human and humane. God bless you. Thanks likewise for my placement in your recently-judged contest.

Your recent years are so filled with emotions, Line. Surely, you did your best. This poem though, is written straight from the heart and it certainly tugs us readers pretty hard. We need to hear this to know how it can be when it's done well. And, of course, we need to hug those we care for and live with gratitude. Congratulations on your fine win.
