Just a Day
So close,
all the prep and anticipation
aching to be set free with adulation,
shimmer, sparkle, scintillating inclinations
push pulling every heart's temptation;
so near,
you can touch it, close and near,
hear it in the carols dinging in the air,
see it in the malls and stores here and there,
senses of glitter, glamor, glimmer glare
tactile feel and satisfaction of the glitz and gloss unspared;
so enticing
you ignore the cost and reason
wrappings in lavish images of the season
trees, ornaments, trimmings, and adornments appeasing
Santa, snowmen, sleigh, and reindeer feeding
so often forgetting,
the sadness of others needings;
can you see? can you hear their pain heeding,
do you recognize their want, their inner bleeding?
what does Christmas mean to you?
Is it hype,
the presents, the food, the drink,
the gift of the year, the sync?
Is it laughter of friends and family dear,
the parties, and the cheer?
while the lost and lonely, share homeless tears?
Perhaps it's just another day in the by and by,
a celebration of life gone awry,
a hunger of both body and soul forgotten within their cry.
In your heart, you know it's not.
Gather in your hopes and dreams
of Christmas not so long ago in manger scene
when mother and child gave hope to each of us
in the Christmas story of love and trust
the legend of the day by which we each are touched.
