Notes About The Poem

JUNE'S HEAVY HAND

Sun ascends, the relentless overlord of the day.
Steam rises from concrete like breath from the earth.
Stillness settles in the trees, even the cicadas pausing.
Sweat beads and trails, a slow-moving river on skin.
Shade becomes a sanctuary, fiercely guarded.
Sky shimmers in a veil of unrelenting heat.
Souls surrender to June's heavy hand.

June gets to be a high humidity time plus a warming to summer's heat, and it can get rough. The older I get the harder it is to handle the heat and humidity. I enjoyed reading this one. Thank you for sharing it with us. Sara K.
