July Joy

July Joy

July arrives spreading county fair spells
Pink chubby pigs and roan cows with cowbells
Excitement grows in fields and through the dells
Gold medal livestock for new clientele.

Hear the music of the carousel
Take a ride on Ferris wheels air cells
Take a chance on arcade games as well
Knock down all the bottles then ring the bell.

Revel in corn dogs and cotton candy smells
Sweet corn and cakes – prize winning show and tell
Jams and jellies with blue ribbons excel
Crisp green apples coated with caramel.

Rows of prized roses and vases of bluebells
Honorable mentioned quilts shaped like seashells
First place red barn paintings, sunset pastels,
County fairs with fireworks sheer joy foretells.

Hi Paula! Every year we would go to both the state fair and a small, local county fair. These fairs were such a part of my summer experience and are such a part of my happy summer memories I just had to write about them. Time to toddle down the midway for some "fair" fare! Blessings my friend.

Ah, Sam. Makes me wanna buy some local honey and home made jam (jelly?). As has been said already, a fine nostalgic write. Congrats on your top win. Terry

Greetings Terry! Thank you so much! This poem seems to have brought back wonderful memories for so many of us - the little kid in all of us! What a joy that is. Hope you find that "local honey" and "homemade jam!" We have a local farmer's market with all of those wonderful goodies! Time to take a spin on the carousel! All the best! Blessings!

Tania, a heartfelt thank you many times over not only for the most generous placement but for the opportunity to revisit many happy memories of going to state and county fairs not only as a child but as an adult - wide-eyed and ready to cheer at the pig races! Our county fairgrounds are close to us. Still making memories, this poem came from my happy place! So much fun! Blessings. Thank you again!
