July

You took away every piece of me
An empty promise for all of my
broken dreams.
I let you have everything.
Gave you my throne so
 you'd feel like a king.
I lost my soul trying
 to make you happy
You set fire to my throne
Somehow it didn't feel wrong
when I watched it burn to nothing.
You brought to my eyes to see
that the throne wasn't
quite big enough for me
I blew away smoke
and brushed off some ashes.
I could see where all of our past is
I put the glee back in my soul
as I watched you get old
when you cried,
"I've given everything!"
