Note: ‘z’ is pronounced ‘zee’ in the USA and Philippines, but ‘zed’ in the rest of the world.

Grammatical rhyme: fanfare / dare / faired

In the past, when you needed to adjust the syllable count or grammar, you often elided a word and used an apostrophe to indicate it (eg, fair’d). To elide is to omit a sound or syllable in speech. A Limerick is an art of entertainment through performance, not merely what is written.
