Joy of Nature
Hiking through the densly wooded forest
pungent smells assail my nostrils
and I am warm
caressed gently amongst the ferns and
verdant grasses
that blow softly with the touch of the wind
I come upon a meadow that stretches out
like a multi coloured blanket
full of flowers that portray the spectrum in
tints and hues that amaze
and I see etched in each one
a perfection next to none
I hear birds calling out to each other from
across the meadow
and watch them as they swoop and turn
playful in their hunt for prey
and ever watchful for a furtive movement of
a creature below
I don't want this hike to end
the city seems so cold sometimes
and the rush is grating on my already frayed nerves
this is a healing time
a way to get outside myself and experience
new breath
fresh feelings
and eventually a way home.
