Joy

Happiness is less than joy
The unexpected product
Of goodly interventions
In successful ways of conduct

Yet happiness is fleeting
A dimming of the fires
While sadness is the substance
Of our unfulfilled desires

Thus, happiness and sadness
Though not our motivation
Are side effects of caring
In the calling of our station

But joy is something greater
A feeling that is longer
It doesn’t fade like happiness
But keeps on growing stronger

It comes from simply acting
In thoughtful ways of living
Regardless of the outcome
By the quality of giving

So, fill your life with caring
And random acts of serving
And you will know the feeling
Of the joy you are deserving.

I really like this, Bryan. So if joy is more permanent version of happiness. What would be the one for sadness? Depression? So many people live with that one.
