I'm jolted by the twilight of my years.
So blessed to be mid-eighty standing still
to bask in memories of what has passed-
and grateful for my present, awesome life.
My thoughts of future years are now defined;
for certain, there's an ending to my road
where I will not be privy to the gifts
of taking part in good times that will come.
Four Great-Grand babies and one more to come;
their ages now, between newborn and five.
My thoughts of future joys with them decline
by that uncertain span, my future holds.
How many of their birthdays will I share?
How many holidays will I be there
with family to interact with them?
These questions show my limitations well.
I'm jolted by the twilight of my years.
But I must grasp my life as nearly full;
more empty if they never graced my world-
enjoying them until that gate is closed.
