Joke

It was a joke
It had to be a joke
A joke it apparently wasn't
But everyone's laughing
At a joke that isn't a joke
A joke spoke by nobody
A joke spoke by somebody
A somebody certainly not joking
But joking is the way it was taken
A token joke spoken in the moment
Just a joke
Just a silly little joke
But there was never a joke
Not a joke spoken
Not a joke for a token
Not even a token joke
Just words spoken in a humorous way
But certainly there was no joke
Just a joke in the delivery
Just a joke in the unfinished sentences
Just a joke in appearance
But there was no joke
There was no joke spoken
A joke was articulated
A joke was left on the table
'A joke spray painted on project halls
Where kids are just trying to survive
A joke painted on faces
A joke immortalized in literature
Just a silly whimsical joke
But what was the joke
Because I bore witness to no joke
It was a joke
Because it had to be a joke
If it was a joke we're all going to choke
Listen to me
There was no joke
The joke is
We're still talking about it
