Joe Gets a Warning

Joe Gets a Warning

By Elton Camp

To young Joe the preacher did tell,
“You little worm, you deserve hell.
You missed church for a ball game
And that’s just a disgraceful shame.”

Reverend continued to fume and cuss
As Joe’s sins he proceeded to discuss
“And you went out with Sister Mae.
A good boy wouldn’t do that way.”

He said the money spend on a date
Should be onto the collection plate
“We can’t meet expense of the church
If cheats like you leave us in the lurch.”

He condemned going to a picture show
“It’s no place any Christian should go.”
He ranted that the time Joe wasted there
Was proof that about right he didn’t care

At the hateful words Joe cringed in fear
A burning lake he didn’t wanna come near
He saw the reverend at the movie that day
But guessed that for him it must be okay
