I've Written

I’ve written in the melting snow
On sands defying tides
A napkin here, a margin there
For words, they will not hide

They scream inside
Long to be freed
Torture me
With their great need

Some so obtuse
I turn them loose
To chase the rhymes
Of Mother Goose

Others leap from a Thesaurus
Shouting “don’t you dare ignore us.”
Whilst in the margins I do fractions
Wrestling with new contractions

Thus, my plight is that I write
Early morn to late at night
For ‘neath the rising-setting sun
A poet’s work is never done

So etch your words upon cold stone
Or text them on a new i-phone
For they will fade like old blue jeans
Haunt you in your moonlit dreams

This is great, John. You've really covered the waterfront with this one... Though not a subscriber myself, as I am more 'ecclesiastical:' A time to write; a time to say goodnight, Gracie!... When I was younger though, my brain was still in overdrive. Now --- driven over. :) gw

Perfection. I loved this poem. I liked the reference to contractions because it is one of my secrets, also which I use to make words "fit". (I guess everyone does it). I will keep this one.

There are many... MANY times when I read you, John and just can't think of exactly how to respond. Like Dilly, I'm in awe of your poetry, your wit, and your level of humility. How clever is your rhyme for Thesaurus! If this is not socially acceptable either, then I'll just have to claim that I don't give a fig!!

I'm in complete agreement with your thought, Dilly. Too many receive undeserved accolades while those who are truly deserving are too often ignored.
