It's the Little Things
It’s the way the back of your hand touches mine and we instinctively entwine our fingers..
It’s the way you find new can of shaving cream when you are almost out of your old one without mentioning a word about it….
It’s the way we look at each other across the room and in our deep invisible embrace, the rest of the room fades away and all we see is each other even though we are 100 feet apart…
It’s the way you spontaneously kiss me on the cheek, showing all your love, appreciation and adoration in that one 3 second act….
It’s the way you find avocados in the refrigerator when you know I can’t stand them but I know you love them…
It’s the way you find my sweater or relinquish your jacket to my shoulders when I’m cold….
It’s the way you wolf down the awful dinner before you, a creation I thought you’d love that clearly went wrong, with a smile and sing my praises….
It’s the way you find yourself arguing with your best friend because he says something negative about me even though you know what he is saying is true…
It’s the way you find coffee made when you wake up in the morning, every morning, when you know I don’t drink coffee….
It’s the way you know to grab me and hold me in your arms before my tears appear….
It’s the way I am polite and patient while your mother comes to visit and criticizes me…
It’s the way you tell your mother to back off while I’m being patient and polite…
It’s the way you wear that awful sweater every winter just because I knitted it for you, even though the sleeves are different lengths…
It’s the bashful way you look to the ground after a mind reading stare, thinking of the night before…
It’s the way you stay after church with me talking to people you have nothing in common with while maintaining a smile just because it’s important to me….
It’s the way I make sure there is plenty of oil and other fluids in your car before you take a long trip…
It’s the way I hold your face in my hands with your head on my lap as you tell me about a particularly bad day…
It’s how excited you get when I tell you about a personal triumph that doesn’t affect you in any way…
It’s the way you turn on the heater as I am in the shower so I don’t freeze when I get out….
It’s the way I lay out the clean towels on the top of the toilet lid for you when you are in the shower so you don’t have to walk across the bathroom for one…
It’s the way you put on my favorite cologne just before coming to bed making it just for my enjoyment and no one else’s…
It’s all the little things we do to show how much we love each other….
