It's Getting Longer

December is getting longer.
The squirrels are all packed and ready to go.
The dripping daylight has lost its flavor.

Shopping malls are almost deserted,
just the usual geese in the parking lot
who’ve lost all willpower to migrate.

Christmas is limping, black clouds impede.
Murky muddles are blocking public restrooms
and clogging up exhausted old folks.

We are resilient though restless,
impatient yet methodical. These times
demand more of our attention
and this makes for a longer December
as heretofore mentioned.
