It's Been a While

It has been a while since I have written,
I don't know why...just haven't been smitten.

But I was reading some things this bright sunny day,
And thought I should put a few words together this way.

No, nothing grand in the scheme of life,
Just some words to offer when faced with strife.

Remembering now how soon we'll see,
The lights, the glitter, the smell of the Christmas tree.

A happy time for children of all ages,
Most of them in youthful stages.

A time when love seems to run o'er the cup,
Especially for the two who sit by candlelight's sup.

But I have seen it in the Soup Kitchens as well,
Where the homeless and hungry come in to dwell.

Love on each plate of food passed on,
A kind word of cheer and a smile they can rely upon.

Oh, how the bright sun beams its rays,
To all below during these happy days.

All of this because in a stable low,
A child was born so long ago.

Dan: Nicely written. So nice to read something without icicles and tinsel. Now that season has passed but I hope the care and sharing with the less fortunate won't. Thanks for sharing those lovely thought with all of us on the soup. Keep them coming. oldbuck

I saw your comment on one of my poems and was so happy to know you are not only well, but back! Welcome home, Dan - you have been missed and so have your poems like the one above! A joy to read you again and this one is deep with such a touching message - Dan-style! Poetry hugs (so good to see you) ... CayCay

Thanks, CayCay. I have been MIA because I have been so dry in writing ideas that I have not had the words. I only hope that some will come to me now. Your writing, as always, has been a treat to read. I hope to read some more, soon.

This is wonderful, Dan. I too recently worked in a shelter and you are correct. A kind word or a smile does make a difference.

Thanks, Dan. There is nothing like watching the faces of those in need who are grateful for a helping hand, a kind word, or just a genuine smile. I appreciate your words.
