It's Been a Long Time

All those days have now turned to years
So unwilling to listen to all those inner tears
And yet as another day will soon begin to set
You are so clever in avoiding the fisherman's net

For as each of those days has soon passed you by
Not one single time did you even try
Vainly working among all the other fools
Ascertaining nothing but all those worldly tools

So long ago it was so very different
When on Sunday morning, off to church you went
When each and every single one of your days
Was at least filled with some little sort of praise

We both know that it's just been too long ago
But there is something that I wanted you to know
Through all this time I have never left your side
And that gap between us, it is not at all that wide
