*excerpt from “The Serenity Prayer”:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

It's Almost Here

As twenty-twenty-five draws to a close,
a few more Christmas get-togethers will take place.
I’m following to-do lists every day
and keeping up by moving at a lively pace.
At night when I’ve checked off each daily task,
thoughts of the future softly drift into my mind.
This year’s approach to life will play a role
in how the next year goes. I won’t approach it blind.

I’m very realistic when I pray
A famous prayer* I’ve heard serves as a worthy guide.
I ask Him to help me embrace these facts:
The year will bring hardships with which I must abide;
with courage, I must change the things I can
while realizing there are things I cannot fix.
Abiding peace can be mine if I see
each moment as a gift from God in twenty-six.
