It's a Lie

His eyes dilated and
I saw beads of sweat gather
on the tip of his nose.
His jawline was clenched
and his fingers were fidgeting.
Did I say something wrong?
What have I done?
I love this man.
With one swing I was floating,
my back greeted the floor.
I smelt the rubber of his shoe.
as it met my jaw, and I felt it,
as it blacked my stomach.
Did I say something wrong?
What have I done?
I love this man but,
it’s a lie. He will do it again.

Hi Allison, Wow, powerful, intense imagery. I hope this didn't actually happen to you, but it sounds so real. Either way, you are a budding poetic talent, so put your energies there and run the opposite direction from creeps like that guy. Plenty of other sources of inspiration out there. Cheers, Brian

Congrats Allison, but I pray this is not your experience or that of anyone you love......Domestic violence is scary especially if the perp is a spouse or a partner.
