It's a Different Kind of Wonderful Life

My name used to be George Bailey
Though now I'm dead, well, technically
You see I wished to die one night
And now no one knows me, this is my plight

Thing is it's not so bad in Pottersville
Sure there's gambling, whores, and a lack of goodwill
But I'm a new man now, and astronaut-in-training
And I'm gonna go to the moon, with the name Charles Spanning!

I always wanted to travel, stuck as I was in Bedford Falls
Now that I have a dead brother, a crabby mother, and a wife roaming library halls
I'm free as a bird!
But now not another word!
Forget your bells and angel wings!
I'm heading to NASA tonight!
To take my first space flight!

So Merry Christmas to all!
And to all a good night!

Thank you so much, dear Matt....your contests are always such a challenge, and it is my honor to place in this last one!! You have such talent yourself, that it is a greater pleasure to know you liked my entry! Thanks very much!! And this poem above.....love the novel twist to our American Classic holiday film-favorite.... now I won't be able to watch George Baily, without thinking of him in a flight suit!! "To space and beyond"....oops getting George mixed up with Buzz Lightyear!!!! LOL !!

Hi Matt. Delighted. Flabbergasted. On a high, But mostly honoured to have achieved my win. As I only started writing 7 months ago and am still on an unknown journey this has given me a tremendous boost. I see by this piece that perhaps you have a quirky and razor sharp outlook on life. Loved it especially the 10th line. I live in Ireland so perhaps am too far away to get the book. If so, no worries as the accolade that you have afforded me is prize enough. Peace and happiness to you. Eamon
