It Would Be Nice
For once I would like to walk a world that is built true and right
Just once I would like to see a sunrise not filled with darkest night
Yes I would like to see a caring hand reaching out to me
Not trying to get in my pocket while telling me I am free
The house of cards built in our yards trembling from the venal breeze
Be very careful should that howling wind chance to make us sneeze
Tumbling in that disaster scattered much like winters blowing leaves
The ribs of our umbrella tattered remnants scattered upon polluted sod
That glorious umbrella once covered by, “One Nation under God”
.
Puffy clouds are my dreams scattered upon the poisoned skies
The stories of my childhood lay before my tear filled eyes
Why you ask do I feel so low consumed with words so dark
Experience accrued by living so long to me you should now hark
Friends and strangers I tell you true it don’t have to be this way
Truly we are the directors and writers of life’s glorious play
Time to set aside our differences and join in common need
Time to settle all the conflict driven by the greed
Please remember when you’re driving do so with your eyes
Because if you try to do it with your ears all of mankind dies.
Look at all the strife, disenfranchised, social illness, hunger, and if that does tell you
it is broke, broke, broke there is nothing more I can say, except goodbye.
