It Was Scary

"I knew that God was with me, but yet I was afraid and feared evil". by Poet My personal experience has taught me to face my fears. Confronting such fears does not mean the absence of tears. Nor does it mean that one will be void or immune from 'the feel'. But it does mean that in time, long or short, they are more likely to heal. Two major fears come to mind as experiences that were very SCARY. In both cases, there was no way out, no where to run, no way of escape. In Chicago during the summer of 71, I was the victim of a strong-arm robbery. Two young men, who were mere forms in the dark, pointed a gun and took $90. It was SCARY, but I did not panic, and both they and I were totally silent as they reached into my pocket and took the money. Like David, the Psalmist, I knew that God was with me. But also, unlike David, I did fear evil in the valley of the shadow of death. In Sacramento, about three years ago, I was walking up the block in my community. To my shock and surprise, a large German Shepherd came running around the corner straight toward me. My heart started beating like a drum, but in the scariness of the moment, my better judgement shifted into gear, and my faith and hope for the best came into focus. The rapid drum beats in my chest quickly ceased as I realized that he was a most friendly German Sheperd who somehow lost his way. I continued to walk to the end of the block as my new found friend turned and walked with me. We returned to my home, and my friend took on other interests as I called the county to assist in identifying and getting the dog to his home. The county worker finally came and took the Shepherd away. "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil". by David the Psalmist 102921PSCtest, ''S'' Contest, New Poems, Constance La France. 2P
