The day had started well,
As she set out to meet him.
The sun shone brightly;
Her summer skirt swung freely.
Then, as he came into sight,
The heavens opened,
Drenching her day.
The flowers he thrust into her hands
Were his farewell gesture,
As he walked out of her life.
