It Hurts

After all this time
It still hurts
They say pride goeth before a fall
Ain’t that the truth!
I was so sure
So smug
And now I am lost
A little girl
Wanting to cry
But why?
I never truly loved him
Still, it hurts
Because he never loved me
It took me a long time to see
How they are together
I wish they would just go
Crawl back to that rock
She came from,
Live their happy life
And let me be.

Sometimes we write poetry to try to understand our own emotions but I suspect you do understand your own feelings here Ellen and have written a powerful yet poignant free verse that for me, is a great example of ‘poetry in emotion’. Cheers - Gary

Thank you, Gary, for the kind words. Poetry has indeed been therapy for me. Ellen
