It Feels Good To Be Back

Oh I remember that time
Staying up every night
The pen flying across the sheet
Sitting on the edge of my seat

Yes I remember that peace
That perfect scene
Where there was nothing but me
The paper and the pen in between

It's all I think of
My hands feel restless
Inching towards the pen
A temptation to which I must give in

I'm looking for that happiness
My equilibrium
That I missed so much
When it was gone

Now when I'm liberated
From my commitments
My hands possess life
Separate from mine

Reaching for the pen
Without a thought
And beginning
With furious relief

What a joy it is
I can't explain
And when it's done I look up
Time forgotten

This is my release
The only way I know how
To be me
My only link to clarity

This perfection
How can I forget
I can never forget
It's a part of me

My universe lies in this pen
That's the only truth I know
I don't need any more

So now after so long
Lifting it again
Like it's a part of my arm
I smile at the old familiarity

Old friends reunited
I say in my mind
Hello again old friend
It feels good to be back.
