Isolation Island

I live on an island
surrounded by walls,
I placed them there
to protect the inside...
honestly, to protect me.
I failed to understand
that I need to live...
no, I must live,
I must experience,
I must feel, I must love.
The island is lonely,
for I let no one stand
on its hallowed ground.
But am I protected, really?
I have changed -
I have hardened inside
this self-imposed fortress,
I have no feelings...
I care for none.
I have become the island!
What have I done?

you got it, the knowledge of how important it is to rely on others. No man is an island. I can't remember but it's a song based on something famous! Love this.

George, your poem reminds me of the Simon & Garfunkel song "I Am a Rock, I Am an Island." If we erect walls to keep the bad out, we also keep out the good. As for your questions regarding dinner, come on down and fish with me. Dinner will be on King Neptune, not me. LOL Love, Carolyn
