Is Today Actually Tomorrow

Woke this morning, thought, might take a shower
it's 9:00 am already, will eat lunch in a few hours.

When I dust and make the bed, chores will be done
why check the ballgame scores, don't care who won.

After my nap, think I'll watch the kids play
wrote in daily journal, didn't have much to say.

Almost time for news, weather and that wheel game
can't recall who won yesterday, prizes seemed the same.

Dinner wasn't too bad, eat fast when dining alone
nothing's on the TV, nobody to talk to on phone.

Might as well go to bed, be nice to fall asleep
there's no reason to get up, no promises to keep.

Tomorrow will be another day, do it all over again
really miss old crazy Joe, he sure was a good friend.

Laying here listening to the siren, headed to the fire
it's quiet, peaceful and empty, wonder why did I retire.

Wayne, I enjoyed reading this poem. From some of your comments I'm pretty sure I don't want to retire; I might have to work harder. Congrats on your placement. John

I semi-retired on January 13, 2017. I have never worked so much since that time. I may need to retire from my retirement. This poem too is fiction, but has some meaning. Thanks

I am semi-retired and work more now than ever. I wrote that poem one night trying to imagine how it would feel to be all alone and retired. Seems I hit a note.... Thanks for the comment and I am very pleased with the HM. I will be reading your work. Thanks

Thanks Darlene, I wrote the poem late one night and I wanted to express a feeling. It is not about myself, I am semi-retired and working on 2 patents with two start up businesses. I don't want to be like my character, but I could use a little solitude....lol. The comment makes me feel I hit the right cord. Thanks Wayne

Aww, this rings true for a few of my friends who have retired. This piece was straight forward and brutally honest. I hope writing can be a therapeutic escape from the boredom ;)

Hi Carl. Thanks for visiting my poem and your kind comments. A belated welcome to Poetry Soup. Your poem is right on! I often log on just to see what day of the week it is. Time flies and retirement takes some adjustment. You've captured that feeling well!

Thanks for the touching comments, I retired (semi-retired) in January and at 63 feel really young for my age. I tried to put myself in the mindset of loneliness when I wrote this. I will be reading some of your works, Thanks again

This was a relly good poem. My wife and I have this thing where we call Sunday-Smonday. The weekday comes so fast that we don't even have time to enjoy the weekend and find ourselves in the continual repetitive loop of activities. 7+ and a fav! Welcome to the soup!

There's a reason to get up in the morning: write more beautiful poems! I like this a lot, even though the underlying feeling is one of sadness and boredom. Welcome to PoetrySoup :)

I want to thank you for the comment. I am semi-retired and it seems since I quit working full time I stay twice as busy. Looking forward to spending more time with poetry. Thanks
