Is It Not Time To Take a Chance

kismet came to me in the form of a guttersnipe I could not hate it nor did I want to what is it you are after? I asked. The guttersnipe laughed. Are you so tainted that you do not recognize a friend? I felt ashamed. It had been a long time since I had a friend. At least ten years. I do not want to be hurt, I told her. Your walls are high, she admitted But isn’t it time you took a chance? And so I did. And she hurt me. And I began calling her mean names. And now I am alone again Building a thicker wall Taller with spikes around my heart.

Oh my, I can relate to this one, Caren. Friends of twenty years I have not heard from since Deb died. Doesn't make any sense. I miss them, but I guess they don't miss me. I'm building higher walls with spikes just like you.

It is sometimes comforting to build high high walls, so we do not have to pretend we are not hurt and they are not being selfish. Sometimes people cannot bear to see a spouse after a death because they do "not know what to say" - sadly.
