Invisible Mending

Invisible mending, for an invisible pain: Invisibly tearing whenever I see you again. Impossible longing, wrapped in my tentative smile: Wondering vainly if you could love me a while … Invisible torture of inaudible words, Piercing my mem'ry like a glittering sword. Invisible scalpel of your butterfly touch, Reminding my body that I miss you so much … Pulling out threads from all the light and the shade. Weaving them neatly into the holes that you made. Jabbing the needle into edges so raw: Pulling together almost as good as before … Invisible mending – no, you can’t see the tear: But look at it closely and you know that it’s there. The patch may look better, but it’s never so strong: The hurt’s covered over but it’s never quite gone … Invisible mending, for an invisible pain: Invisibly tearing whenever I see you again. Indelible visions of a happier time: Incredible torture now … ‘cause you’re no longer mine. ............................... Entered in Paula Swanson's "Thread" contest
