Introduction To My Poetry

MANY A POEM SHALL I LAY TO REST
IN THIS GOLDEN PAGES, HEAVEN'S CREST
T'WARDS ADVENTURES IN MY FAILING YEARS;
VALLEYS I ROAMED WITHOUT MORTAL FEARS
AND DESERTS I FAINTED THRU', A PEST
TO MY HEALTH, MELANCHOLY'S TERROR-
BUT AS I ROAMED, WAS I IN ERROR?
SEEKING ANSWERS FOR MY BLEEDING HEART?
LO! A PITY AND THE SPOILS ARE HARD:
MY ADVENTURE MET MA'Y FELLOW
WHO BEGGED ME TO RETURN HOME AND PRAY-
OH CHRIST! I REFUSED AND HERE I LAY
UNDER SUN BEAM OF THE DESERT CLAD,
HEART FAILING,POEMING FOR EVERY LAD-
