Internet Trolls

We all surf the internet to do shopping online
Chat with our friends and to have a good time
But there's  bullies' who surf it causing great hurt
They're the internet trolls, the scum of the earth.

They're the faceless cowards who sit behind a screen 
Who always get away with it, because they're never seen
And the bereaved suffering loss, who struggle to grieve
The vile messages they receive, you would not believe.

The disabled are targeted and so are the sick
By the internet trolls who get some sort of kick
People with skin colour be it brown, white or black
They are often subjected to a vile racist attack.

Young girls who are worried about how they are seen
Are ridiculed and abused while they look at their screen
The mentally ill and suicidal, those unfortunate souls
Are encouraged to commit suicide by these internet trolls.

Time after time you see and read on the news
Someone who's been targeted by online abuse
Their spirits crushed and their confidence marred
Some are left suicidal and emotionally scarred.

Who are these trolls ?, they could be your friends or mine
But become the face of evil when they go online
Social media and governments' you know all about it too
So please could you tell me what you're going to do ?.

Valsa George May 7, 2024 at 8:46 PM What a powerful poem so beautifully expressed. Because of the sadistic pleasure of some many lives get ruined emotionally. The trolls who spread scandals or calumny about others get a savage pleasure. The question asked at the end cannot be answered, as no body knows how to check the activities of the trolls. Just before Christmas I used the block feature on someone on here the first time I've had to do so. The internet makes it easy to hide and be the evil they are or turn into. This is one side of the internet I detest. They put a face of goodness then turn and face the other way to show and hide behind another..spout religion ,but don't follow themselves, they whisper to others their foul lies and I hope that those others can discern their whispers. I agree with the others below, these internet trolls are cowards and have no life. They are the scum bags of the earth. Like you said the government needs to enforce a punishment more strict for these faceless cowards. My heart goes out to all the families who has lost a loved one to suicide because of these trolls. They should just GET A LIFE! I think the best thing is to ignore them, because they are thriving on upset responses. Trolls and bullies hate it when nobody pays attention. And then they should be trained to help out at the suicide hotlines for community service for a year or two! (Just sayin!) Silent One February 9, 2018 at 6:04 AM Tom what a sad world we live in with keyboard warriors, who get a kick out of bullying other people and on so many occasions there have been tragic endings.. Social media has a lot of negativity, but also some positivity also.. I feel the govt is not doing enough and so arnt places like Facebook and Snapchat, begs the question do they even care.. Jan Allison February 9, 2018 at 4:01 AM Bravo Tom you have written about people who are the sum of the earth ... hell bent on causing hurt to other people they have never met. I don't do 2facedbook and wrote 'being bullied' about a young manx girl who committed suicide as a result of online bulying - the police found about 50 pages of abusive messages. None of us know who really is behind the computer. ( it was that that gave me the inspiration) What really surprises me is some of these trolls have respectable backgrounds and they do it for kicks.
